Vacancies for freelance medical writing jobs can be usually be found in large numbers at job sections of magazines like “New Scientist” and “Nature”. A significant number of these vacancies usually go untaken suggesting the high demand for medical writers.
Therefore to meet the demands, clinical research organisations (CRO) or medical writing agencies are taking trainee writers or those who have recently completed their PhD. They are the ones with significant experiences in at least in writing protocols, preparing posters and most importantly papers for publications in peer reviewed journals. These companies will train new recruits in writing and editing, project development, medical and legal transcription, graphic design and illustration, regulatory writing etc.
So if you are one of these recently graduated PhD’s, its worth considering a career in medical or technical writing. However budding writers must be aware that most of the recruiters will usually ask you for a test.
