Equipments that you would need to become a freelance medical writer
To be a freelancer you must be free for at least about eighty hours of a week. Be sure that you have computer and internet connection. Remember you are going to use them for most of the time, so take care to get good system. Be sure that your internet connection does not cost you more than what you are going to earn in a project. It would preferable if you could afford for a system that has high storage capacity. Be sure to have almost all softwares. Have a spare such as laptops. This might be useful whenever power maintenance occur during urgent projects. In addition, laptops would be excellent when you have miscellaneous job and need to travel long. You can just take them with you to have your work done.
Have multiple monitor this would save your time excellently. You can do simultaneous work when some process is occurring in another monitor. Be sure that you have a back up of all what you do in your system. This would sometimes lead to distress when your system all of a sudden crashes. Have your OS copy so that you could immediately re-install if any error. Do not search for softwares after bidding. Have them handy and uninstall them when they are no more required. Having huge load of software may damage your systems to a high extent.
Do not fail to try out shortcuts when you do a lot of typing job. Proof reading would require mouse handling. However, when you type your documentation you must use short cut keys in keyboard instead of using mouse. This would keep you comfortable to some extent. Be sure to have two browsers Mozilla fire fox and internet explorer. This is because some sights would be easily adaptable to any of the specific browser in that case you can use the one that best suits the site. Also, get a good table and chair for your system, so that you could be at ease to do your typing. Do not fail to have Microsoft word, acrobat reader. However, try not to get the latest version. Sometimes the documentation then would not be compatible with the client’s resources. So be sure that you use a compatible version. Discuss this with the client before you start your work.
