Working as a medical writer would require a lot of efforts and pains from the writer’s side. However, all this until you get a state of recognition. Once you get recognition, it does not mean that you are free. However, it means that you could be at ease in your chair and just demand people to pay you for your skilled work. That is what important in any writing profession. Also, remember never demand lot than exactly needed for the job.

One advantage in doing the job, as a freelance writer would be that you would be the owner of the entire job. No one would be there to order you or share your profit. This is highly lucrative. You will not have a standard payment. Based on the type of the job you would be paid high enough. Do not feel shy to boast about yourself. Selling yourself in the competition is the most important part of any freelance or self-employed job.

You are the one who has to set up all the plans, design and the documentation. There would be no one to organize you. Therefore, it is your responsibility to see to it. There is a tendency for people to never follow their own rules. Do not use such habit in this situation. Then this will all end in vain. You must be able to do lot homework and check and proofread yourself the document once again to check for any errors.

There are several advantages and disadvantages in this. Sometime it would be advantageous to be single than to be divide in teams. At the same time it would be better to be united in teams rather than being single and suffering.

Freelancing in Teams

If you feel standing alone in a crowd, would be difficult then just get a help of two or more. However, let the team size be minimum of five. If it is going to be greater than five are, then synchronization among you would be little difficult. Then time spent on such synchronization would be more than that spent in the project. Then you would require rules to be framed so that everyone must follow them. Lot of other issues too would arise. In short, if you try to form a team in size greater than 5, then immediately it becomes company. It would always be better to have a team size with three.

Employed Technical writer

The safer and better way to get a standard income that goes through daily is being an employee in an organization. They would enjoy the highest privilege among other medical writers. They do not have to work about selling themselves in the crowd. It would be the company that would get through this problem. Their work is to just focus on their writing. This would lead to a greater attention on writing than at marketing oneself.

However, they must be in apposition to prove that they have done wonderful task to please their task. In addition, they would not be at their ease to do the job they like. They have to do the job given by their superiors. They would be commanded and given no time to relax. In freelancing, you will at your priority to choose your rest and work time. This would not be possible in your employment.

You have to show your company that your worth for the pay they grant you. In addition, writing is a boring job and you would be forced to do them in fixed time. You may soon lose interest at your job and do serious mistakes in documentation. This may lead to any extent of actions in your employment.

Remember there is a great nasty word that employers do not like to hear are taxes. Apart from taxes, you would be given only fixed wages even if you have done extra ordinary work. There would be lot of commissions taken by your company.
